Mission update: April, ¨07

Dear Friends,

We hope you are all fine and finding joy and rest in the Lord. These special "nine months" for us are indeed very special but also very different. As we spend more time at home for Angelica to get the rest she needs we are learning new ways to minister to each other as well as to those outside. God is faithful to bring people to our door both to be a blessing to us as well as offer us an opportunity to be a blessing.

One example is a young Christian woman who came with her husband last night requesting that we visit her ailing uncle in a nearby community. We went with her this morning and indeed found a 62 year old man who has been very sick for years with infections on his feet and hands. Angelica was able to diagnose his medical problems and promised him medicine early next week but she was also able to lead him in a prayer of repentance and acceptance of Jesus into his heart. Others have come to our front gate as well who bring joy into our lives as we are able to share with them.

The clinic at the Rocablanca Base is running very well with our new doctor and Josanna, a recent dental graduate who is considering joining us full-time. We need to raise $200/month to be able to contribute to her support. The need is very great, especially in the mountain villages, for a dentist. Please pray with us to know when the time is right for her to join us. Laura and Isidro are driving back from the border today with a used pick-up that was donated that we are hoping will be used to bless the people of the Ixtayutla region. It will allow Isidro to make more regular trips with much needed food rations, supplies for the missionaries living in the region and just enable us to be more present to the people there. God is doing amazing work in that region amidst great changes that are coming with road improvement, govt. infrastructure and more "outsiders." Pray for wisdom to know how to share the Good News amidst all this change.

We have a busy next couple of months with many short-term medical, construction and evangelistic teams. Pray that they all will be a blessing to the people they visit in the mountains and that each person on the teams will be touched in a special way with what God is doing in and around them. In July we plan to head for Angelica´s hometown in the state of Puebla (about a 10 hour drive) to await the blessed event of the birth of our first child. We are growing more excited everyday as we hear ever more clearly the heartbeat and feel the baby moving.

Thanks to each one of you who share with us either by reading this blog, praying for us or giving financially. The address to make contributions to our ministry is:

Victory Latin American Outreach (VLAO) Inc.
421 1/2 E. 30th Avenue

(with Dan & Angelica on the memo line)

for Christ´s Kingdom,

Dan & Angelica

Dan, praise God for the opportunities that literally come to your door. And praise God for the gift of a child for you and Angelica! So wonderful.

As an update for you, God is working in people's hearts to make the Chatino Bible Project happen. After putting a brief note in the last newsletter, people have responded and so far we have been able to purchase 10 MP3 players. I am able to preload the players with the Chatino New Testament then they will passed out to people in the Chatino region. After I load them, I listen to them briefly and even though I don't understand what is being said, it gives me chills to know that a Chatino man or woman will be able to hear the Word of God in their own dialect! That is just so powerful! And I even prepared an Amuzgo one for Socoro to listen to before we make multiple copies.

Lastly, thanks for the congratulations for our engagement. Jill and I are both so excited! Well, I will keep in touch. God bless you and Angelica!

In Christ,
Matt

Thanks Matt for the update on the Chatino project and all your work on it. We need one more consultation from blog advisor: Since this blog became a "google account" we haven´t been able to paste pictures. I´ll send you a pic with our password to see if you can figure it out. Thanks.

Hola Dan,

We saw Matt and Jill downtown tonight after Cindy and I ate tacos carne asasda at Taqueria Michoacan, a little bit of Mexico right here in Arkansas. I think we are going to try to get our team to go there to eat next week after our training retreat.

I am excited to hear about the dentist opportunity. Cindy and I will be praying about the support. We hope that in starting our clinic soon that we would quickly get patients so as to pay off loans quickly so we can give even more. I am excited about the possibilities that will present themselves in a years time when these loans are paid off!

We can't wait to see you two. As for the blog photo thing, if you haven't already, download Picasa and use Picasa web albums to upload your photo's to your blog just as Cindy and I have on the right side.

Thanks Jason for the lead on Picasa. Looks good... How´s the fundraising going for next month?

I think the fund raising is going well. I don't think we should have any problem raising the money for the concrete. We are going to ask each community group to help with the rest of the cost not already covered and I believe that should take care of the money needed.

I see you now have pictures. Yeah. Hope to see more soon.

Are there any things we can be collecting to bring down for this trip? Hats, sunglasses, shoes, shirts, etc.

Yes, all those things you mention are welcome as well as little toys and candy to give away to kids. BUT, all donated materials must be randomly dispersed among all the suitcases you bring so as not to arouse attention. Thanks for your discretion.
